PRESIDENT'S REPORT FOR THE COUNCIL YEAR 2000/2001

With the blessing of God, the guidance of Rev. Fr. Simon Lam and the efforts and contribution of the council members the business of St. Louis Old Boys' Association Limited (ˇ§SLOBAˇ¨) has been smooth and satisfactory for the past year.

During the year 5 council Meetings and numerous Sub-Committee Meetings have been held. As at the 30th day of November 2001 the number of members of SLOBA is 3,179.

SLOBA has maintained its web page www.sloba.org so that members around the world can keep in contact and have first hand information of current events of SLOBA. However, there is a lot to be done to make the web page more attractive and informative and I urge all old boys for your inputs and assistance on improvement of the web page.

The SLOBA Visa Card launched by SLOBA and Wing Lung Bank Limited in October last year with the purpose of raising fund for enhancement of the school facilities has been generating funds. I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to you, the old boys of St. Louis School, to apply for the SLOBA Visa Card and use it so that you can help the School at no costs to you.

SLOBA (Sydney) has set up bank account in Hong Kong for ˇ§The Father Deane Trust Fundˇ¨. For better administration and smooth operation, the funding in ˇ§The Father Deane Trust Fundˇ¨ of Hong Kong has been paid into the bank account of SLOBA (Sydney).

Mr. Albert Hong has taken up the responsibility of Welfare Officer and acted as Advisor to the St. Louis Youth Club. With his in depth knowledge of the St. Louis Youth Club the activities of St. Louis Youth Club in the past year have been smooth, satisfactory and also efficiently.

Following the custom, SLOBA continued to make donations to St. Louis School and the Don Bosco Boys Club and sponsor reunion of graduates in celebrating their special anniversary.

SLOBA has not forgotten the old boys overseas and continue contacts with SLOBA (Sydney) and SLOBA (Canada).

In order to strengthen the recruitment of new members, an orientation night was organized for the recent 3 years of graduates, teachers and Rev. fathers at The Sportman's Bar Patio at Hong Kong Football Club. The same was well attended by over 100 people.

The activities of SLOBA during the year 2000/2001 are as follows :

30th March 2001

Spring Dinner was held at The Kowloon Cricket Club in the form of pool side barbecue. The change of venue and cuisine was met with great enthusiasm and the event was well attended.

September to November 2001

During the period SLOBA has organized ˇ§Family Sports Dayˇ¨ for old boys and their families. SLOBA provides a forum for various sports at indoor playgrounds and the same is open to all old boys and their families. The Family Sports Days were also well attended.

16th November 2001

With the aim of giving the new graduates a more in depth knowledge of SLOBA and to recruit new members, an Orientation Night was organized at The Sportman's Bar Patio of the Hong Kong Football Club in the form of BBQ Buffet Dinner. The recent 3 years of graduates (98/99, 99/00 and 00/01), teachers and Rev. father were invited to participate in the event. The event is well attended by over 100 people.

During my term of office, I am indebted to Rev. Fr. Simon Lam for his valuable advice and guidance. Furthermore, the advice, assistance, input and efforts of the fellow Council Members are also indispensable. I wish to take this opportunity to thank Rev. Fr. Simon Lam and my fellow Council Members for all their efforts which brings about a fruitful year. My best wishes for SLOBA with more successful and prosperous years to come.
