PRESIDENT'S REPORT FOR THE COUNCIL YEAR 2002/2003

The past year has been a challenging one for all Hong Kong people. Our SLOBA, blessed with the Holy Spirit, proudly announced that we have supported, participated as well as organized a series of events/functions in the year of 2003.

In March, our fellow members took part and supported the SLOBA Foundation Golf Tournament organized by SLOBA Foundation. The event, held at Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course, had successfully raised a total sum of HK$215,000 for the sole purpose of setting up the St. Louis School 75th Anniversary Language Awards and Scholarships.

In May, we were invited to participate in the Game's Day jointly hosted by four parties, namely the Parents & Teachers Association(Secondary Section), Catholic Parent's Association, Parents & Teachers Association(Primary Section) and Teachers Association of the School. We believe that ties with these associations are essential and beneficial to SLOBA. We also attended the Annual Speech Day of the School in November and presented the Rev. Fr. Patrick Deane Best Graduate Award and the SLOBA Academic Awards to those outstanding students of St. Louis. Our public relation mission also extended to F.5 graduates as we gave a short presentation about SLOBA to them during their Annual Graduation Dinner in July.

We, SLOBA, always perceive that our fellow students should acquire knowledge beyond the books. As such, a special open-hearted session was organized for our current F.5 students on 24th October 2003. The general feedback on this talk was encouraging and we might consider holding one or two similar talks each year.

Two outdoor functions had been organized by SLOBA in the year of 2003. The Summer Day Camp, i.e. SLOBA Rendezvous 2003, held at Po Leung Kuk Jockey Club, Tai Tong Holiday Camp in August attracted over 120 people. I take this opportunity to thank those volunteers from the 16th Hong Kong Scout Group as well as our council members. Without them, we would not have a great success on that day. On 13th December 2003, we had our Homecoming Barbecue Night at St. Louis. Nearly 250 people had participated in this meaningful event. Our SLOBA football team even won the championship in the Football Competition held on that day.

In the past year, SLOBA sponsored the Reunion Dinner of the old boys of the year 1973 while we also continued to support the activities launched by the St. Louis Youth Club. Six council meetings were held during the past year. As of January 2004, total number of SLOBA members is approaching 3,500. Further, a total number of 611 credit cards have been issued so far.

Once again, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Rev. Father Lam, Fr. Ng and all the fellow council members for their precious time and effort in helping our mission completed.

Eugene K.C. HA

President
