PRESIDENT'S REPORT FOR THE COUNCIL YEAR

2003/2004

With the blessing of God, our old boys association, the SLOBA, has just gone through a good and fruitful year of 2004.

We had held eight council meetings during the past year and are delighted to advise that the total number of members of SLOBA has reached nearly 3,600. Further, a total number of 522 credit cards have been issued so far. With your continuous support, we strongly believe our SLOBA will grow even bigger and stronger.

Thanks to the effort of Mr. G. B. Ng, our Vice President and Mr. K. K. Chan, our Sports Officer, the new SLOBA website has been substantially completed. The current website will run parallel with the new website for a period of six months and there is also a hyperlink between them to ensure a smooth transition.

With a view to extend our SLOBA's commitment to the community, we have organized a Sunday brunch buffet to raise fund for the establishment of a ”„SLOBA Primary School”¦ in China in September last year. We are very happy and proud to announce that our target has been met raising a net proceeds of HK$380,000 approximately. A sub-committee comprised of Mr. Graham Chan and Mr. Albert Hong, our two council members and me, has been formed to oversee and supervise this project. On behalf of the council, please allow me to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to those who have made donations to this project. Your support and generosity will never be forgotten.

We are also pleased to announce that our Rev. Fr. Clement Wong has recently taken up a new role to be the Supervisor of Aberdeen Technical School. In October last year, we have held a dinner to bid farewell to Fr. Wong who has been ”„ Father of our Youth ”¦ ( «C¦~·O¤÷ ) for so many years in St. Louis. We sincerely wish him every success in his new assignment.

Two reunion functions of the old boys for the year of 1974 and 1994 were held respectively last year with the sponsorship from SLOBA. Our interaction with the School in the past year began with the attendance of the Form Five Student Graduation Dinner in July. I can still recall Mr. Patrick So, our Honorable Secretary, had made a very impressive speech to remind our young boys on how to achieve a better goal in their future path. The second event was the Annual Speech Day held on 26th November 2004. On behalf of SLOBA, I presented the Rev. Fr. Patrick Deane Best Graduate Award and the SLOBA Academic Awards to those outstanding students of our School.

Our ties to the Salesians of Don Bosco remain as close as before. Mr. Peter Ko, our Liaison Officer, attended the Annual General Meeting of the Federation of Don Bosco Past Pupils in March. Further, our council members also participated in the Centenary Fund Raising Walkathon organized by Salesians of Don Bosco on 14th November 2004.

Our Event of the Year, the Home Coming BBQ Night, had attracted more than 260 persons to come back and visit our School. We held the BBQ Night at the basketball playground and you could feel the cozy and pleasant atmosphere everywhere that night. Our Youth Club members had given their tremendous effort in organizing the event and made it a very successful one.

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rev. Fr. Simon Lam and Rev. Fr. Peter Ng for their valuable advice and guidance to us. I also wish to extend my gratitude to my fellow council members for their contributions and efforts throughout last year.

Eugene K.C. HA

President
