PRESIDENT'S REPORT FOR THE COUNCIL YEAR

2004/2005

I am delighted to deliver my 04/05 President’s Report to all SLOBA members.

Just a few days ago, the Provincial Office of Salesians of Don Bosco organized a series of functions in HK and Macau in respect of the Centenary Celebration of the Arrival of the Salesians of Don Bosco in China. Our council members as well as other old boys supported and participated in most of the activities. It is a great success, in which our participation clearly demonstrated the unity, harmony and faith of our Salesians.

Mr. Tam King Ling, the Vice Principal of our school, officially retired from the post this year. May we wish him healthy and sound in his retired days.

The council has held five meetings in the past year. As of the date of this report, the total number of members of SLOBA has surged to nearly 3,800. However, members holding our SLOBA credit card are only 526, a slight drop as compared to last year. We strongly urge our fellow members to apply for the said card and to use it as your main card.

A new website has been officially launched in the first quarter of last year. We thank Mr. G.B. Ng and Mr. K.K. Chan for their efforts in this new website built up exercise. We welcome your input to further enhance the contents of this website.

Our interactions with the School, the three PTAs (Parents & Teachers Association) as well as the students are very frequent. We participated in the Thanksgiving Dinner organized by the School and the Spring Dinner held by the three PTAs in January and February respectively. I, on behalf of SLOBA, delivered a speech to our F.5 graduates in July. In October, we invited two old boys, Mr. Albert Cheng and Mr. Johnny Leung back to school to talk about “Social Etiquette” to our St. Louis boys. On behalf of the Council, I also presented the Rev. Fr. Patrick Dean e Best Graduate Award and the SLOBA Academic Awards to the outstanding boys during the School’s Annual Speech Day in November.

In July last year, our SLOBA Football Interest Group was found and had organized four football matches for our members. We must thank Mr. K. K. Chan, our Sports Officer, and Mr. Josiah Tang, our 1974 old boy, for their football spirit by giving birth to the Interest Group.

Our social activities throughout last year were very exciting, resulting in a very good turn up rate. Our AGM Dinner in February attracted over 70 old boys and guests. On 1 st May, over 120 old boys and their families joined our Seafood Boat Trip to Lamma Island and Po Toi Island. The Autumn Gathering at Metropol Restaurant on 7 th October 2005 also got around 70 old boys and their guests. Needless to say, the Annual Homecoming BBQ received the most popular award with over 200 old boys and their family members coming back to our school on 7 th January 2006.

SLOBA financed the “Tutorial Programme for F.5 Students” organized by our fresh old boys with the aim to boost up the HKCEE results of our current F.5 students. As usual, we continued to support the Youth Club of the school and sponsored the reunion dinner of the 1965 old boys.

I regret to announce that during last year we have lost three of our beloved Salesian Fathers: Rev. Fr. William Joyce in May, Rev. Fr. Gerald Kerklaan in October and Rev. Fr. Bruno Gelosa in December. May their soul rest in peace in heaven and may we also send our deepest condolence to their families.

Last but not least, I wish to take this opportunity to thank all the council members for their hard work and enthusiastic participation in making the past year a successful one. Above all, may we also give our heartfelt thanks to Fr. Simon Lam and Fr. Peter Ng for their continuous support and valuable guidance to SLOBA all through these years.

Eugene K.C. HA

President
