PRESIDENT'S REPORT FOR THE COUNCIL YEAR

2007/2008

The year of 2008 was our Alma Mater's 80th Anniversary. To commemorate, several events had been organized: the Walkathon on Nov. 11, 2007; the SL80 Thanksgiving Variety Show on Mar. 2, 2008 as well as the Anniversary Dinner on May 2, 2008. It was so delighted that the Anniversary Dinner achieved an overwhelming success with over 120 tables fully booked occupied. Our SLOBA, with utmost enthusiasm, made a generous sponsorship of around HK$300,000 to the school for the dinner event. .

Thanks to Uncle Hon and Mr. Lawrence Wan, a new sub-committee-SLOBA Aloysian Fellowship, was formally founded in April 2008. All our past yearsˇ¦ headboys are members of this sub-committee and they all have strong vision to help further strengthen the growth of SLOBA as well as contribute to the continuous well being of the School. Welcome on board.

Fr. Foster came back to H.K. in Oct. and, due to health reason, was admitted to the hospital for a few days. With Godˇ¦s blessings, Father recovered very quickly. In celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Ordination of Father Foster together with the Fr. Anthony Bogadek and Fr. Joseph Lee and the Golden Jubilee of the Profession of Fr. Michael McKenna, SLOBA hosted a dinner with all our honorable Fathers on Oct. 30, 2008.

We thanked Mr. James Yip of 1957, Mr. Anthony Liu of 1962, Dr. Dominic Sinn of 1968 and Dr. Chan Yuk Wah of 1971 for their selfless care and love to Fr. Foster during his stay in the hospital.

Our beloved Fr. Alexander Smith passed away on Dec. 8, 2008 at the age of 93. Funeral mass was held at St. Anthonyˇ¦s Church on Dec. 13, 2008. Fr. Smith, being our Principal during 1970-1976, led our Alma Mater to scale new heights in all her academic and extra-curricular endeavours. Fr. Smith, you are forever in our hearts.

We also held our summer outings to Tung Lung Island, Joss House Bay and Po Toi O on June 9, 2008. Over 110 members and guests joined this event. Our annual Homecoming on Jan. 11, 2009, as usual, attracted more than 180 over 200 members and their families back to school.

Mr. Peter Ko, representing SLOBA, attended the 9 th Asia-Australia Congress of Past Pupils of Don Bosco in Philippines in December.

Currently, we have over 4,160 members and among them, there are 490 holding our SLOBA Affinity Corporate Card.

I would like to thank my fellow council members for the sacrifice of their precious time and contribution of numerous efforts in making 2008 another success for SLOBA. May I here call for your continuous strong support to SLOBA for all the upcoming programmes. Above all, my heartfelt thanks go to Fr. Lam and Fr. Ng for their sincere patronage and valuable counsels to all of us.

Eugene K.C. HA

President
