Actions For the “Fine Tuning Language Policy”
http://www.stlouis.edu.hk/index.php
In the past few days, SLOBA has been gathering a group of enthusiastic old boys to discuss St. Louis’s “Fine-tuning” controversial issues. An emergency meeting involving old boys from various graduation years was held and during that meeting, all possible means of action in support of St. Louis both in regard to the present issue and the longer-term development were intensely deliberated.
The followings are proposals discussed and concluded at this stage:-
(a) Misunderstanding of the situation by parents of primary 6 students is our major concern. SLOBA has assigned some old boys to furnish these parents with adequate and clear information and to clarify any misunderstanding they may have regarding the real impact on St. Louis under the present Fine-tuning policy.
(b) With the assistance of SLOBA, an “Information Session” will be organized at St Louis to provide comprehensive and correct perspective of the St. Louis education as a whole (including but not limited to the medium of teaching). Target group of the Session would be for parents of all primary 6 students. The Session will probably be advertised in various newspapers in Hong Kong.
(c) SLOBA will hire communication professionals to support St. Louis on the preparation of the Information Session mentioned above and on other efforts relating to the media.
(d) SLOBA will delegate further resources to support St. Louis on both academic and extracurricular fronts, on top of the current programs (such as Career Talks, Mentorship Program and Professional Coaching for School Sports Teams).
(f) We have considered the suggestion from some old boys to put an advertisement in the newspapers to clarify the misleading reports. However, after consultation with some PR professionals, we have decide d not to take this action , at this stage, as we may run a high risk of another round of mis-informed controversies in the public . We will continue to monitor the situation and take any appropriate actions.
“Once an Aloysian, forever Aloysian” We believe as an Aloysian, we all have once been under the guidance and love of St. Louis. This is the time to gather our people back, to restore and defend our school’s true value, and to reclaim our school’s name.
Dear old boys of St. Louis, it’s time to answer our call.
Regards,
Martin So
